Sea stories from my Grandparents...
I was fortunate enough to spend a weekend with my grandparents a few weeks before lockdown and we got chatting about their favourite sea stories. I decided to develop these conversations into a visual project consisting of a short film and an A5 booklet. The inability to spend time them over recent months has made me really appreciate these precious moments and reinforces the incredible power of storytelling.
My grandmother preferred a stormy grey North Atlantic Sea which she liked to call,"An angry old lady about to explode." In 1965, my grandfather had finished his studies in California and boarded the original Queen Mary Ship from New York across the Atlantic to Southampton and then finally to his hometown, Glasgow. He remembers falling out of his bunk from a big wave that rocked the ship and loved playing cards with the other passengers onboard.
